A 25-year-old NSW man has been charged after allegedly leading police on a dangerous pursuit through Canberra’s south before tyre deflation devices brought his car to a stop.
Police say officers tried to stop a black Volkswagen Jetta without a rear number plate in Monash about 1.50am on Tuesday.
The driver allegedly sped away, swerved across the road and drove on the wrong side of the street through Monash.
Police deployed tyre deflation devices at the intersection of Isabella Drive and Cockcroft Avenue, striking three tyres. The vehicle came to a stop a short time later on the Monaro Highway.
The 25-year-old, who police say was disqualified from driving and subject to a good behaviour order, allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test for methamphetamine.
He has been charged with aggravated dangerous driving, driving with a prescribed drug in oral fluid and driving while suspended.
