26-year-old woman choppered to safety

The terrain at the Booroomba Rocks rescue this afternoon.

A 26-year-old Canberra woman has been rescued after falling from a rock face while rock climbing at Booroomba Rocks in the Namadgi National Park this morning (December 30).   

About 11.30am today police received a report of an injured climber on the Hermes Climbing Track, Booroomba Rocks, having fallen about six to eight meters down a rock face while climbing in the area, She was found by an off-duty police officer who called for assistance. The off-duty member is also a part-time member of the AFP Search & Rescue Team and was able to guide rescuers to the injured woman as well as providing vital information about her condition.

Due to the location of the injured woman, a co-ordinated rescue was made using AFP Search and Rescue, ACT State Emergency Service, ACT Ambulance Service  and ACT Parks and Toll Rescue.

The woman was airlifted by the Toll Rescue helicopter about 2.30pm to hospital for further medical treatment.  It is believed her injuries are not life threatening.
