THERE are a record six Canberra arts recipients in today’s Queen’s Birthday Honours list, all of them mighty contributors to our
cultural scene.

They are textile artist Valerie Kirk, music director Christopher Latham, glass artist Jenni Kemarre Martiniello, music organiser Dorothy Danta, “Music Hall” director Rosemary Hyde and veteran costume designer Anna Senior.

THE inaugural Capital Film Festival opens on Wednesday (June 15) with the comedy, “Good Luck To You, Leo Grande” and runs to June 26. 

CANBERRA’S Romanian folk band Super Rats and Gang Gang Cafe present “Winter Revels II”. Featuring the honkytonk grandeur of the 145-stringed cimbalom, plaintive violin, exotic accordion, and sturdy double bass, the Rats will entertain while the café serves up dinner, with both
vegetarian and meat options. Gang Gang Café, Downer, 7pm, Saturday, June 18.

BAD luck for National Opera, with news that a cast member for “Cosi fan tutte”, due to open on Thursday (June 16) has come down with covid. They will go ahead with 2pm and 6pm performances on June 25. Those affected should contact nationalopera.org.au to change tickets.

ARTISTIC director of the Come Alive Festival of Museum Theatre, Peter Wilkins, advises us that Come Alive 22 is going ahead between October 28 and November 5, with 11 schools participating so far, but with spaces especially for year six classes. This is the 13th anniversary of the festival and Wilkins would like to hear from teachers, especially of Year 6 classes, interested in taking part, email him at [email protected]

WESLEY Music Centre Lunchtime Concert series has the Olive Trio in “Reverie”, Rowan Phemister on harp, Zoë Loxley Slump on oboe and violin, and Lucy Macourt on violin, playing the music of Sally Greenaway, Michael O’Donnell, Berlioz, Shostakovich and more. 12.40pm-1.20pm, Wednesday, (June 15).
