CATHERINE Townsend has been re-appointed as the ACT Government Architect.

First appointed to the position in 2016, Townsend’s role as government architect is to provide independent design advice to the ACT government on architecture, urban design, planning and procurement for government projects and private proposals.
“I’m looking forward to continuing to work for the best possible outcomes for the ACT’s built environment, ensuring that designs respond to Country, the needs of current and future Canberrans and are prepared for the challenges ahead on our path,” said Townsend.
As part of her role, Townsend will mentor two architecture students from the University of Canberra – Kieran Minto and Courtney Thoo – who were recently awarded Alastair Swayn internships.
Swayn, who passed away in 2016, was appointed the ACT government’s inaugural architect in 2010.
