ACT Labor has announced its 25 “progressive, practical, and proven” candidates for the October territory election.
Every Labor member from the current Legislative Assembly has been pre-selected, except for Speaker Joy Burch, who is retiring from Brindabella at the election.
Mallika Raj, daughter of former MLA Deepak Raj-Gupta, is standing for the party in Yerrabi.
Taimus Werner-Gibbings, who was pipped at the post for the sixth Brindabella seat at the last election by former Greens member Johnathan Davis is standing again.
Labor has held government in the ACT for 23 years.
With the promise of talking to “Canberrans about the progressive, nation-leading policies that will improve people’s lives and make Canberra an even better place to live”, the party says its plan includes “record investment in our public healthcare system, which will include more nurses and doctors” and “to build more public schools, improve TAFE facilities, expand the university sector and employ more teachers”.
