Get ready for days of rain, warns ACT SES

A 95 per cent chance of rain on Friday with heavy falls of between 10mm and 40mm most likely in the afternoon and evening.

Emergency Services are warning Canberrans to brace themselves for what could be a wet couple of days as conditions deteriorate in the ACT from Thursday to Saturday.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for parts of the ACT for heavy rain and possibly damaging winds,  forecasting a 95 per cent chance of rain on Friday with heavy falls of between 10mm and 40mm most likely in the afternoon and evening.

Likewise for Saturday, with a 95 per cent chance of rain, most likely in the morning and afternoon and the chance of a thunderstorm. Falls could be between 10mm and 45mm.

The ACT State Emergency Service recommends that residents:

  • Clean gutters of debris;
  • Check that nearby street drains are clear – call City Services if they are blocked;
  • Trim overhanging trees and branches;
  • Do a general clean-up around the home and backyard;
  • Take care while driving, and never ride, walk or drive through a flash flood.

Anyone needing support during storms and floods should call ACT SES on 132500.
