The ACT Director of Public Prosecutions and Domestic Violence Crisis Service ACT have launched a new partnership aimed at improving support for family violence victims moving through the justice system.
Under the arrangement, a DVCS practitioner will work from the DPP’s office one day a week from mid-June to help improve information sharing and coordinate support for victims and complainants.
ACT Director of Public Prosecutions Victoria Engel said the initiative would help prosecutors and witness assistance officers better respond to victim and witness needs as family violence cases become more complex.
DVCS chief executive Sue Webeck said the partnership aimed to reduce the stress caused when victim-survivors are contacted by multiple agencies for similar information.
The initiative builds on existing cooperation between the DPP and ACT Policing and was announced during Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month.
