A 19-year-old man has been charged after allegedly seriously assaulting and choking a man he met through a dating app.
Police say the two men arranged to meet at a south Canberra home on Tuesday before the 19-year-old allegedly assaulted the man and demanded money.
He then allegedly forced the man to drive to several locations across Canberra to withdraw money.
Police allege the man tried to escape from the car, but the 19-year-old reversed while he was opening the door, preventing him from getting out. He was eventually let out in Kaleen, where he called for help.
Police found the man’s vehicle in Giralang about 5.15am on Wednesday and arrested the 19-year-old, who was allegedly sitting in the driver’s seat.
He has been charged with recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm and choking, suffocating or strangling another person.
Police say investigations are continuing and further charges are being considered.
