A tender has opened to refurbish Woden Library ahead of Access Canberra’s planned move into the building in 2027.
The project will bring Woden Library and the Access Canberra Woden Service Centre together in the government-owned building in Woden Town Centre.
The library will remain on the ground floor, while Access Canberra will operate from a dedicated customer service centre on level one with 12 service counters.
Some study spaces currently on level one are likely to move to the ground floor, while community rooms on both levels will remain available, with minor changes being considered.
The refurbishment will also include improved wayfinding and customer facilities, with community consultation over coming months to help inform the detailed design, particularly accessibility.
The tender closes on October 29, after which a head contractor will be appointed before refurbishment work begins.
