Eighth magistrate for ACT courts

ALEXANDRA Burt has been appointed a magistrate of the ACT Magistrates Court.

Ms Burt has more than 18 years’ experience in legal practice having most recently served as a magistrate in Shepparton, Victoria.

Before that she was a barrister practising in criminal and administrative law and appearing in both federal and state courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, the Mental Health Tribunal and the Forensic Leave Panel.

Ms Burt will commence in her new role on January 15. She brings to eight the number of ACT magistrates.

In addition, Rebecca Christensen and Dr Anthony Hopkins have been appointed acting judges  to the to the ACT Supreme Court. Ms Christensen and Dr Hopkins both currently serve as special magistrates.
