Bookworms bring in the dollars for Lifeline

THE Lifeline Canberra Southside Bookfair raised $62,000 for the local telephone counselling service on the weekend, with the help of more than 2500 book lovers and collectors from across the Canberra region.

About 50 people fought the frost from 6am to ensure they had first pick at the fair that’s run by volunteers. This bookfair included volunteers from St Clare’s College, Mt Stromlo High School, Canberra Girls Grammar and Federal member for Canberra, Gai Brodtmann.

“Each time we put a Bookfair on we have seen a steady increase in attendance and revenue which is very rewarding for all involved,” said Lifeline Canberra CEO Mike Zissler.

The Spring Bookfair will be held on September 21-23, ahead of next year’s 40th birthday.
