Dancing with passion and Radiance

Radiance dancers
RADIANCE Dance Project has joined Belconnen Arts Centre to present a program of monthly dance workshops, “Room to Move,” starting this weekend.

The program, kicking off on Saturday, July 28, from 2.30pm-4.30pm, in the heated Dance Studio takes the form of a monthly inclusive community dance and movement session through improvisational movement.

“Room to Move” sessions aim at unleashing the  creative possibilities of each participant and promotes “inclusive” dance in the wider community and offer increased opportunities for adults both with and without disabilities to connect with one another through the arts.

Experienced dancers, choreographers and teachers will have the opportunity to facilitate an inclusive dance workshop in the hope that inclusive dance practices will be incorporate into future work.

The improvisational approach is viewed as an accessible creative approach to performance.

Radiance Dance Project Director Morgan Jai-Morincome has put together these classes, to  be led by tutors including Min Mae, Mica Cochrane, Chenoeh Miller and the Arts Centre’s Community Arts Officer, Philip Piggin.

Piggin says: “Programs of this calibre, length and approach are extremely rare and usually very expensive.

“They will provide a wide range of high-quality dance experiences, for all participants, with and without disabilities, and a fantastic opportunity for significant professional development for all dance teachers in the ACT, whatever their particular dance genre”.

The sessions are open to all adults including people living with disabilities, and no previous dance/movement experience is required. With funding support from the Radiance Dance Project, workshop participants will only pay $10 per session, and support workers/carers are free.
