Are you bushfire season ready?

WITH the launch of the “Canberra Bushfire Ready” campaign, Canberrans are being urged to prepare themselves for a hot and dry summer. bushfire

Today (December 9) Minister for Police and Emergency Services Mick Gentleman joined the ACT Emergency Services Agency in launching the campaign which will help prepare the community to take the necessary steps to minimise the threat of bushfire.

“The wet winter has produced significant grass growth and we already know we’re in for a hot, dry summer and little things can make a big difference when it comes to bushfire preparedness,” says Gentleman.

“I also urge Canberra residents to prepare their homes and yards by giving them a general tidy up, clearing away unnecessary garden clutter and ensuring that you and your family have a bushfire survival plan.

“Landholders are reminded of the requirement to maintain proper firebreaks around their properties and to manage fuel levels appropriately.

“We also suggest you follow the ACTESA on Twitter and Facebook, regularly check the ACTESA website and download the national ‘Fires Near Me’ app on your smart phone to ensure that you are across the most up-to-date bushfire information.”
