A GRASS fire in Hume today (December 20) is believed to have been lit by a discarded cigarette butt.
Crews were alerted to the incident on the Monaro Highway at 1.18pm and arrived to find a four metre by four metre fire which was quickly extinguished.
The ACT Emergency Services Agency reminds Canberra residents that cigarette butts should never be thrown from cars, regardless of the weather conditions and certainly not on a hot, windy day like today.
