Video / Civic one hit punch on New Year’s Eve

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to a ‘coward punch’ assault that occurred in Civic in the early hours of New Year’s Day (Friday 1 January).

About 2.45am a male was the victim of an assault whilst outside the Supa 24 convenience store located on East Row, Civic. The victim was in conversation with another male person when he was struck from the side by a second male.

Police arrived on the scene where they found the male victim laying on his back unconscious with his head on the ground.

The male victim sustained injuries that required him to undergo emergency surgery.

Police are seeking to identify the male offender (pictured) who is described as being between 5’6” and 5’11 inches tall (170cm – 180cm) with dark complexion. He was wearing a grey T-shirt and black pants.

UPDATE: A Braddon man aged in his 20s is now assisting police with their enquiries into a ‘coward punch’ assault that occurred in Civic in the early hours of New Year’s Day (Friday 1 January).

This afternoon the man handed himself in at City Police Station and is now assisting police with their investigations.

Police would like to thank the community and media for their assistance in swiftly providing information regarding the identity of the two men involved in the disturbance with the victim, pictured in CCTV.

ACT Policing investigations are continuing.

UPDATE: ACT Policing has charged a 20-year-old Braddon man following a ‘coward punch’ assault that occurred in Civic in the early hours of New Year’s Day (Friday, 1 January).

Following the release of CCTV footage on ACT Policing’s Facebook page, the man handed himself in at City Police Station and assisted police with their investigations.

He was released on bail and will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on 15 January facing a charge of recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm.

    Or the other guy who is distracting the victim before an insulting wave goodbye after the punch? He is just as guilty.

    The solution is to build a big fence in the middle of the desert and throw these bastards in. Banish them from populated areas for the rest of their lives, we don’t need them. As it stands, we are going to have to foot the bill to feed and house this bastard and then pay for his centerlink payments (would you hire a useless moron like this?). Using my tax dollars for this is NOT ok, I don’t want any part in supporting an animal like this. Put it down, or exile it.
