Artsday / Beaver shows works fit for an empress

Nicola Dickson, ‘Imagining Malmaison, Gang-gang Cockatoo’, acrylic and oil on linen.

NICOLA Dickson’s show “Voyagers’ Tales: Baudin paintings and drawings”, works inspired by the expedition to Australia led by French naturalist Nicolas Baudin in 1800, will be at Beaver Galleries, 81 Denison Street, Deakin from July 23-August 9, Tuesday-Sunday, 10am-5pm. A huge collection of plants, insects, birds and animals, and sketches of these, were brought back to France, many of which were acquired by Napoleon’s wife, the Empress Joséphine for her country residence. CTC@HOME continues until August 15. On Wednesday, July 22 there will be circus with Jake Silvestro at 6.30pm, then “Streetfighter IV: Ultra Tournament” at 7.30pm. On Friday, July 24, Peach Lane will be performing live music at 6pm, followed by Chris Endrey’s “The World From Here” at 8pm. Watch via Facebook.

WESTERN Sydney University’s Australia-China Institute for Arts and Culture in partnership with Jeffrey Chen Art Studio, Art Wonderland Studio and Bingbing Art Studio has launched a new audio-visual digital exhibition “Coronavirus in Children’s Eyes”, featuring 20 artworks created by youths aged six to 16 years old from the three community-based art studios in Sydney, accompanied by a voice narration from each artist and music by young musicians. INTER-PLAY is a new program from The Street facilitated and led by theatre artist barb barnett, created in direct response to how the world has changed in the past six months in an exploration of the interplay between the pandemic and theatre making into the future. Finishing a tutu.

THE ever-inventive Australian Ballet has an entertaining video showing now, “How To Make A Tutu”, as wardrobe staff make the tutu for the Ballerina Doll in Graeme Murphy’s “The Happy Prince”, designed by Kim Carpenter.
