PLANS for an e-scooter trial in Googong have been scrapped.

Queanbeyan Palerang Regional Council (QPRC) was one of 37 councils across NSW that originally expressed interest in the 12-month e-scooter trial.

But councillors voted unanimously – at a meeting on August 24 – to withdraw their support for the trial, stating that Googong was not “the appropriate place”.

“There were some requirements for the trial like shared paths, dedicated on-road cycle lanes and roads with less than 50 km/h speed limits,” said QPRC general manager Rebecca Ryan.

“As the map shows there was only a couple of those roads which met that criteria in Googong, so where we thought there was a township that could demonstrate the use of the e-scooters, when it was assessed properly it was deemed to be ineligable.”

The council will now investigate the possibility of a e-scooter trial in Queanbeyan.

“Advice from staff is that technically Queanbeyan may not be suitable, but staff are going to investigate and see if there was an opportunity,” said Ryan.
