Rubbish fire extinguished in Gungahlin

UPDATE, 11.22AM: Firefighters have extinguished the rubbish fire at the recycling facility on Flemington Road in Mitchell.

Smoke from the incident is no longer a hazard to the community. If you are in the immediate area you can resume activities outdoors.

Authorities may remain on scene for some time ensuring the safety of the area.

9.04am: POLICE and firefighters are on scene at a rubbish fire in Gungahlin this morning (September 1).

According to Emergency Services, the blaze is at the recycling facility on Flemington Road.

The fire is causing smoke to be seen from surrounding areas.

The community is asked to avoid the area. If you are in the immediate area, you are urged to stay indoors and close all windows.
