Local pollies get pay rise

MEMBERS of the ACT Legislative Assembly have been given a pay rise, after a decision made by the Independent Renumeration Tribunal.

From July 1, all MLA’s received a 3.25 per cent bump to their salaries.

The determination means the base salary for back benchers has increased by $6000 a year to $177,100.

Chief Minister Andrew Barr is now being paid $371,910 a year – up from $360,202 – while Opposition Leader Elizabeth Lee takes home $301,070 annually.

The Deputy Chief Minister Yvette Berry now earns $318,780 a year and Deputy Leader of the Opposition Jeremy Hanson now has an annual salary of $212,520.

The head of the ACT public service Kathy Leigh is now being paid $434,014 a year, while the annual pay packet of the ACT Auditor-General Michael Harris is $360,529.

The ACT Remuneration Tribunal said that it based its increase on the current economic conditions and wage trends.

All federal MPs saw their salaries increase this year from $211,250 to $217,060, after the independent Remuneration Tribunal granted a 2.75 per cent rise.
