THE Moderna COVID-19 vaccine has been approved in Canberra for at-risk children between six-months and five-years-old, with bookings open from today (August 30).
The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) approved the vaccine for children who are immunocompromised, disabled, or have complex or multiple health conditions.
Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith said there are an estimated 1300 children in the ACT who fit the eligibility criteria.
Eligible children will need two doses, eight weeks apart, but children deemed severely immunocompromised will need three doses of the vaccine to be protected.
“These children are at a higher risk of developing severe illness from COVID-19, so getting them vaccinated is an important protection,” said Stephen-Smith.
Bookings can be made through calling the ACT COVID-19 booking line on 5124 3999, with appointments from September 5.
