TWO drivers had their cars impounded for three months after being booked doing 163km/h on the Hume Highway over the weekend during a NSW police roads blitz that resulted in more than 3100 traffic infringements and 223 people detected drug-driving.
Police also conducted 30,744 random breath tests, which resulted in 115 people being charged with PCA offences.
Of the traffic infringements, 640 were for speeding, 56 for mobile phone usage, 62 for seatbelt offences and more than 2340 for other driving offences.
On the Hume Highway, Goulburn, just before 5pm on Friday (September 9), a police speed trap clocked a BMW 320D coupe travelling southbound at 163km/h, in a 110km/h signposted area. The driver – a 25-year-old man – was issued with a traffic infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.
Later that evening on the Hume Highway near Goulburn, police detected a Mitsubishi ASX also travelling at 163km/h in the same 110km/h signposted area. The vehicle was stopped and the driver – a 27-year-old man – was booked for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45kph.
Both men had their driver’s licence suspended, and being the registered owners, their vehicles were seized and impounded for three months.
