The new strategy – launched today (September 1) by Arts Minister Tara Cheyne – outlines the future operation of the Kingston Arts Precinct, its values, governance and staffing structures.

“The Kingston Arts Precinct will become the definitive destination for Canberra’s visual arts and culture,” she said.

“It will bring together a new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art space, six visual arts organisations, resident artists, and a dynamic program of creative activity.”

The Kingston Arts Precinct – to be built at the Kingston Foreshore – has been plagued by delays, with the concept first kicking off in 2003 as part of an ACT arts facility’s strategy.

The multi-million dollar project – now expected to be finished by 2025 – includes purpose-built arts facilities alongside residential developments.
