MEET the zoo’s latest arrivals, Aida, a female, black-and-white colobus monkey and male zebra foal Ndefu.

Ndefu, meaning “long” in Swahili, is the National Zoo and Aquarium’s 26th foal.

Zookeeper Olivia Ware says it is only three weeks old, but already bonding well with the herd and getting braver each day.

“Ndefu is still sticking close by his mum, Johari,” she says.

Meanwhile at Jamala Wildlife Lodge, Aida was welcomed by her parents Colin and Halle four weeks ago.

“Her name means ‘noble’ and ‘gift’,” says Olivia.

“This is the first black-and-white colobus monkey we have had in seven years.

“We now have four generations of the same family here.

“Halle has been doing really well, as a first-time mum, but she’s taking it all in her stride.

“Colin, her dad, found the first day a bit stressful, but he’s being very protective, which we love to see.”
