A man snatched money from a woman attempting to deposit cash into an ATM at a bank in the Gungahlin Marketplace on Wednesday afternoon.
The 54-year-old Moncrieff man was stopped by a member of the public before the victim took back her money and the man ran off.
Police say they identified the alleged offender from the shopping centre’s CCTV and arrested him in Lyneham at about 11.50pm.
He has been charged with four offences – robbery, preventing a forensic procedure and two counts of possessing a knife without reasonable excuse. Further charges are also expected.
Police say they want to speak to the woman who intervened to prevent the man from fleeing the scene of the alleged incident, as well as any other witnesses.
