The National Capital Authority has led the awards for Canberra’s tourism industry for its Lights on the Lake event in the Events and Festivals category at the 2023 Australian Tourism Awards in Darwin on Friday night.

Lights on the Lake projected light and colour on to two enormous water screens, accompanied by laser lights and a stirring soundtrack. It played nightly, January 25-28 last year.

Two other local entrants won gold – the Royal Australian Mint for Cultural Tourism and the Canberra Region Visitors Centre winning best Visitor Information Service in Australia

Silver awards went to the Museum Shop at the National Museum of Australia in the Tourism, Retail and Hire Services category; Alivio Tourist Park, for Caravan and Holiday Parks and Jamala Lodge, for Unique Accommodation. The National Arboretum was awarded bronze in the Ecotourism category.
