Suspended driver booked for dangerous driving

A 19-year-old suspended driver in an unregistered car has been charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, speeding and improper use of a motor vehicle after a police pursuit on Friday night that ended in Queanbeyan.

Police have also charged him with driving while suspended and driving an unregistered vehicle.

At about 9.15pm police were notified by their NSW counterparts of a Ford Falcon doing burnouts on Lanyon Drive in Queanbeyan.

An unmarked police car followed the Falcon on the Monaro Highway where the driver is alleged to have driven dangerously and erratically, exceeding the posted speed limit and weaving between other cars with their headlights turned off.

With the police in pursuit, the car stopped at a dead-end residential street in Queanbeyan and five occupants ran off. The driver was later arrested in Bonython.
