“This is not wildlife management, it’s a massacre,” said Carolyn Drew, a spokesperson for Animal Liberation ACT.
She was responding to the ACT government’s decision to proceed with the 2025 kangaroo cull, which will kill 2981 kangaroos across Canberra’s nature reserves.
Ms Drew said activists would be on the ground nightly at every targeted reserve, engaging in frontline action to monitor, document and protest until the cull ended on July 31.
“Kangaroos are intelligent, social beings with strong family bonds and the capacity to suffer. Yet each year, the government treats them as pests to be eradicated – reducing their lives to numbers on a spreadsheet,” she said.
