A Holt man allegedly threatened another driver with a handgun during a road rage incident on Morshead Drive on Saturday afternoon.

The 48-year-old man in a black Mercedes Sprinter van, with ACT registration INKD, allegedly interacted with the driver of a blue sedan along Parkes Way and Morshead Drive. While on Morshead Drive, near Duntroon, he allegedly pointed the handgun at the driver of the blue sedan.

Further down Morshead Drive, the van driver allegedly swapped the number plates to YML19N.

The van was stopped at the Glenloch Interchange at around 8.25pm and the driver arrested. The firearm (later confirmed to be a full-size imitation) was found in the van.

The man will appear before the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday after being charged with unauthorised use of a prohibited firearm, unauthorised possession of a prohibited firearm and using a number plate calculated to deceive.

Anyone who witnessed the incident eastbound on Parkes Way and Morshead Drive Between 4.45pm and 5.10pm or who engaged with the black Mercedes van after that time should call 1800 333000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
