Woman in hospital after alleged choking

A Downer woman was taken to hospital with facial injuries after being allegedly assaulted and choked by her partner.

Police say the 37-year-old Latham man allegedly committed serious family violence offences against his partner at her home overnight on Tuesday.

Police allege the man returned to the woman’s residence at 7pm that day and smashed windows.

The man was arrested in Wright on Thursday. He was subject to an arrest warrant for alleged offences committed against the same woman earlier this year. He was also subject to a good behaviour order.

He has been charged with aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm, burglary, and choking/suffocating/strangling another person.

Good to see he’s been charged and hopefully in custody. We know that choking and/or strangling are mostly commonly precursors to murder often on a later date.
