Police will target drink and drug drivers across Canberra throughout August as part of a month-long road safety crackdown.
Officers will conduct high-visibility and intelligence-led roadside testing operations, reminding motorists they can be tested for alcohol and drugs anywhere, at any time.
Last financial year, police carried out 100,688 random breath tests and 3118 roadside drug tests, resulting in 528 drink driving charges and 700 drug driving charges.
Police have also been able to test drivers for cocaine since January 1, 2025, in addition to cannabis, methamphetamine and MDMA.
Police say impaired driving remains one of the “fatal five” road safety risks and continues to be a major contributor to deaths and serious injuries on Australian roads.
