A Phillip man has been charged after police allege he drove at excessive speeds through Canberra shortly after being warned not to continue driving.
Police say officers found the 37-year-old asleep behind the wheel of his parked car on Ainslie Avenue about 1.10am on Thursday. After checking on his welfare, officers advised him to arrange alternative transport if he was too tired to drive.
A short time later, police allege they saw the same vehicle speeding along Ainslie Avenue, driving through a red right-turn arrow before continuing at excessive speed through Campbell, Majura and onto Majura Parkway.
The man was arrested after a traffic stop on Majura Parkway. Police allege roadside and secondary drug tests returned positive results for cannabis and methamphetamine.
He has been charged with drug driving and aggravated reckless or dangerous driving. His licence was immediately suspended for 90 days.
