Two prescribed burns will begin near Molonglo Valley and Hume today, subject to suitable weather and fuel moisture conditions.

An ecological burn at Spring Valley Farm, off Uriarra Road near Molonglo Valley, will reduce dense plant growth to encourage native grasses and wildflowers.

A cultural burn at Jerrabomberra West Grasslands Nature Reserve near Hume will be conducted with Ngunnawal community representatives, using traditional burning techniques to restore native vegetation.

ACT Parks and Conservation Service crews will oversee the burns and patrol the sites until operations are complete. Smoke may be visible across parts of Canberra, while flames and glowing embers may also be seen around the burn areas.

The public is asked not to call triple zero unless they see an unattended fire.
