Sheep killed, home ransacked in Tuggeranong break-in

An 18-year-old man has been charged after two sheep died and others were allegedly deliberately injured during a burglary at a rural property in Tuggeranong last month.

Police allege several people entered the property near the Monaro Highway on the night of September 16 and used dogs to round up eight sheep into a holding pen.

Several sheep were allegedly deliberately injured, with one dying and another euthanised because of the severity of its injuries.

The property’s residence was also allegedly broken into and ransacked.

Following an investigation, police searched a Richardson home on Thursday, seizing items allegedly linked to the incident and arresting an 18-year-old man.

The man has been charged with four counts of joint commission of aggravated animal cruelty causing death, one count of joint commission of aggravated animal cruelty causing serious injury, aggravated burglary with intent to damage property, possessing a prohibited firearm and trafficking in cannabis. He also faces several driving and motor vehicle charges.

A 16-year-old boy was also arrested and released pending further investigation, while a 27-year-old man, already in custody over other matters, is expected to be charged.
