Two men have been charged over an alleged armed robbery at a Hughes business on Monday, with one arrested after a police pursuit that left two police vehicles damaged.

Police say a man allegedly armed with a black firearm entered the business about 6.45pm, demanded cash and showed the weapon to staff before stealing a cash till.

He allegedly fled with another man in a dark station wagon.

Police spotted the Subaru in Turner on Thursday evening, but the driver allegedly failed to stop and drove dangerously at excessive speeds through Belconnen and Gungahlin for about 40 minutes.

The driver allegedly reversed into a marked police vehicle on Gungahlin Drive in Mitchell, causing major damage to both vehicles, before colliding with an unmarked police vehicle on Ginninderra Drive in Lyneham.

A 37-year-old man was arrested and police allegedly found an illegal firearm on the ground beside him.

He has been charged with multiple offences, including dangerous driving, damaging a police vehicle, refusing to provide an oral fluid sample, unauthorised possession of firearms and joint commission of aggravated robbery.

Police searched a Taylor home early Friday, allegedly seizing four illegal gel blasters, ammunition, a prohibited weapon and suspected stolen property.

A 32-year-old man was arrested and charged with joint commission of aggravated robbery and breaching good behaviour obligations.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
