A 21-year-old woman is the fourth person to have their licence suspended on the spot for excessive speeding on ACT roads.
At 8.20pm on Monday officers pulled over a grey Mazda on Erindale Drive, Fadden, that was recorded speeding at 133km/h in the posted 80km/h zone.
When officers spoke to the woman, she produced a NSW provisional licence and was issued with a traffic infringement notice and an immediate suspension notice, suspending her right to drive in the ACT for 90 days.
The woman was fined $1847 and accrue six demerit points.
Legislative changes came into effect at the end of June, allowing police to immediately suspend a driver’s licence and seize a vehicle for up to 90 days when excessive speeding occurs.
Police are urging Canberra drivers to slow down, saying excessive speeding puts not only the driver and their passengers at significant risk, but also puts other road users in danger.
