Water and sewerage bills for ACT households will rise by 6.3 per cent from July 1 after the territory’s economic regulator approved updated prices for Icon Water.
The Independent Competition and Regulatory Commission says the increase will add about $91 a year to the bill of a typical residential customer using 200 kilolitres of water annually.
Non-residential customers will see combined water and sewerage bills rise by between 6 and 6.8 per cent.
Senior commissioner Richard Owens said the increase reflected inflation, higher financing costs and additional expenses linked to government charges, taxes and regulatory obligations.
The commission also approved $3.7 million for Icon Water to implement individual water metering in new multi-unit developments by 2028.
Meanwhile, infrastructure charges for new developments will fall, with the precinct charge reduced from $961 to $920 for 2026-27.
The commission says it will begin its next major review of water pricing over the coming year ahead of the 2028 regulatory period.
