Rider loses licence after 162km/h dash

A 19-year-old Gordon man has lost his provisional licence after police allegedly caught him riding a motorcycle at 162km/h in an 80km/h zone on Adelaide Avenue.

Police say officers detected the rider travelling at more than twice the speed limit about 8.30pm on Wednesday.

The rider allegedly continued at high speed, overtaking other vehicles before police stopped the motorcycle on Yamba Drive in Garran.

The man’s provisional licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and his motorcycle was seized.

Police are seeking witnesses or dash-cam footage of the motorcycle travelling on Adelaide Avenue or Yamba Drive between 8.30pm and 8.40pm on Wednesday.
