A Queensland man has been charged after police allege he led officers on a 60km pursuit in a stolen car before being arrested on a train at Goulburn Railway Station.

Police said they attempted to stop a station wagon travelling above the 110km/h speed limit on the Hume Highway at Bowning about 6.45pm on Friday.

Police allege the driver failed to stop and a pursuit continued for about 60km before it was terminated due to safety concerns.

A short time later, police found the abandoned station wagon in the car park of a correctional centre at Goulburn.

Police searched the vehicle and allegedly found a set of knuckle dusters, a gold necklace and other items.

About 8pm on Friday, police arrested a 29-year-old Queensland man on a train at Goulburn Railway Station.

Police allege the station wagon had been stolen from a Queensland address on Monday.

The man has been charged with police pursuit, driving a vehicle taken without the owner’s consent, possessing a prohibited weapon without a permit, two shoplifting offences, receiving property stolen outside NSW and two counts of driving with an expired licence.

Police said the man was also wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for allegedly failing to appear in court over unrelated matters.

Police further allege the gold necklace and other items found in the vehicle were stolen from a shopping centre at Mittagong on Wednesday.
