A new ACT government campaign is targeting vaping among Canberrans aged 14 to 24, warning of its health risks and directing young people to support to quit.
The campaign follows a sharp rise in vaping among young people, with the proportion of ACT secondary students aged 12 to 17 who reported ever vaping increasing from 11.6 per cent in 2014 to 27.4 per cent in 2022-23.
Among 18 to 24-year-olds, the proportion who reported ever vaping rose from 18.6 per cent in 2018 to 63.3 per cent in 2022.
Health Minister Marisa Paterson says the campaign will use testimonial videos, images and posters to raise awareness of the health effects of vaping and available quitting support.
