AFTER a 15 year legal battle, Canberra Airport and The Village Building Company have finally “settled their differences” and signed a peace treaty.
Canberra Airport and local construction group The Village Building Company publicly announced yesterday the parties have “settled their differences” over The Village Building Company’s plans to build houses under the airport’s flight path across the NSW border at Tralee.
The Airport has also accepted that Village Building will take full ownership of South Tralee.
Managing Director of the Village Building Company Bob Winnel said the agreement enabled Village Building to construct 1500 homes and a range of community and commercial facilities at South Tralee.
“It also facilitates the rezoning of a similar area of land earmarked for residential development by the NSW Department of Planning, adjacent to and immediately south of South Tralee,” said Mr Winnel.
“Canberra Airport accepts residential development occurring at South Tralee and on adjacent land outside of the current 20 ANEF noise contour, in accordance with the decision of 6 November 2012 of the NSW Minister for Planning. This decision reduced the extent of development proposed on Tralee and adjacent lands, by half.
“Homes will be insulated against aircraft noise and sales contracts will include warnings about aircraft noise and the future growth in air traffic.”
The agreement protects the airport against claims for a curfew.
Mr Winnel added there would be “no further comment” to the media beyond his announcement.
