Artsday / Confronting photos show climate change

Another day another “Artsday” column from arts editor HELEN MUSA.

AFTER several covid-related postponements, aMBUSH Gallery in the ANU’s Kambri precinct is, at last, presenting the photographic exhibition “Are We Dead Yet?” by noted photographer and world traveller, Stephen Dupont, showing until January 23. Admission is free and all artworks are for sale. It’s a confronting photo documentation of the effects of climate change on Australia and is part of a long-term project by Dupont.

“COME Alive,“ the schools museum-theatre festival, will be hosted by the National Library and the National Portrait Gallery. It will be streamed from the NPG from 1pm tomorrow (December 4), with Daramalan College, St. Edmund’s College, Burgmann College and Campbell High School presenting performances inspired by the museums’ collections, with stimuli ranging from The Wanda Beach Murders to UFO sightings. MATRIARCH Inc.

MATRIARCH Inc, the Canberra band sensation made up of four women who play punchy, original rock music will join Space Party, a local a four-piece surf pop garage punk band at Smiths Alternative, Alinga St Civic, at 9.30pm tomorrow (December 4). Book here

THE Dairy Road Market will feature a selection of art and crafts by CraftACT, works from the Molonglo Art and Objects Collection, local produce, handmade objects, second-hand clothing, music by DJ Mark Mallett and all-ages play activities at 1 Dairy Road Fyshwick, noon to 5pm on Sunday (December 5).

“ABUNDANCE: Impressions of Nature”, is the long-postponed landscape art exhibition by Canberra artists Lucy Bastecky, Katherine Buchanan, Marijke Gilchrist and Caroline Reid, who share their interpretations of local tablelands, coastal, alpine and semi-alpine landscapes and native botanicals in acrylic, encaustic, pastel, and pencil. At Fyre Gallery, 84 Wallace St, Braidwood, until December 12. Opening and artists’ talk, 2pm, tomorrow (December 4) all welcome.

THE final Wesley Music Centre Lunchtime concert for 2021 will showcase joyous music from the talented Wesley Music Scholars. At Wesley Music Centre, Forrest, 12.40pm- 1.20pm, Wednesday (December 8). Bookings essential here  or at 6232 7248.
