POLICE say one man is dead and another is in custody following an incident in Civic this morning (December 4).
About 9.45am police responded to reports of an indigenous man collapsing after he was believed to be stabbed near a café in Garema Place.
Despite first-aid efforts from members of the public, police and the ACT Ambulance Service, a 29-year-old man died at the scene.
Police believe an altercation occurred near the area where the man collapsed resulting in another man being arrested, however no charges have been laid at this time.
Police say they are collecting CCTV and speaking to witnesses to confirm the exact circumstances of the incident.
Anyone who witnessed the altercation before 9.45am is urged to come forward.
Police expressed sympathy to ACT indigenous community. “We recognise today’s incident will come as a shock and we will provide support to the family and friends of the man who died,” a media statement says.
