THE Australian National Eisteddfod’s 2021 Bands & Orchestras have gone ahead using an online format, because of covid risk factors.
A total of 62 groups submitted recordings for adjudication by Greg Aitken from Brisbane and received feedback on their performances.
Given the online format, all sections did not follow the usual competitive format. Nonetheless, in a spirit of encouragement, there were eight Platinum awards, 24 Gold awards, 21 Silver awards and nine Bronze awards.
Platinum awards for outstanding performances went to three Canberra Grammar School Orchestras, Canberra Brass, Ginninderra Wind Orchestra, Hunter Wind Ensemble, Lyneham High School Year 10 Concert Band and Hunter School of the Performing Arts Junior Concert Band.
Canberra Grammar School Fitzgerald Jazz Band was awarded the Kaaren Talty Jazz Encouragement Award and Canberra High School the Masling Encouragement Award.
Other Eisteddfod events will take place in August and September as follows: Piano, August 19-21; Singing, Friday September 3-5; and Speech & Drama, September 11. All details here.
