Successful covid arts grant recipients named

CANBERRA artists, musicians, film makers, performers and other creative practitioners will  receive grants to maintain and further develop their arts practice through the latest “Homefront” grants.

In the wake of the August COVID-19 outbreak and lockdown in the ACT, “Homefront 3” was designed by the ACT government to provide support for Canberra artists and small arts groups.

Artists were able to apply for up to $10,000 per application and a total of $350,000 was made available.

Successful applicants include musician Angus McAndrew who will receive  $8000  to record, mix, master and produce a video for new songs by Neko Pink, and performer Shawnah Cady, who will receive $7865 for video equipment and mentorship for the “A Daddy and a Diva” show.

The HOMEFRONT 3 recipients are as follows:

  • Jenny Ahmad, to purchase materials for new artworks $3000
  • Jessica Beange, for artist fees and a mentorship for development of a TV show, $7100
  • Paul Bissett, to work with a script consultant and producer  to write new draft of a screenplay for a horror feature film, $9693
  • Sally Blake, to create a new body of work for online sales, $10,000
  • Larry Brandy, to research a book about Wiradjuri seasons, $4000
  • Leah Brideson, for living expenses, artist fees, and materials for new work $10,000
  • Deidre Brollo, for creation of a new limited edition artist’s book, “Unsettled,”  $6000
  • Shawnah Cady, for video equipment and mentorship for “A Daddy and a Diva,” $7865
  • Matthew Curtis, for a new production line of reclaimed glassworks, $8000
  • Melita Dahl for establishment of an online catalogue of artworks, $10,000
  • Michelle Day to develop skills in video editing and animation through online courses  $3017
  • Heather Duncan, to produce and promote new EP by Sesame Girl, $10,000
  • Mimi Fairall, for development of large-scale painting and professional scanning, $10,000
  • Rose-Mary Faulkner, to purchaser a glass kiln, $7499
  • Hannah Gason, for specialist glass grinding equipment, $7427
  • Dorothy Gosper for equipment for live streaming/recording, $2740
  • Akie Haga to undertake a workshop, purchase equipment and develop website with online shop, $8800
  • Melinda Heal to establish a home studio for textile dyeing, $4000
  • Yasmine Hosseini  for recording, mixing and mastering new music by Dogworld, and purchase music equipment, $3000
  • Mark Johnson for materials, mentorship and artist fee for development of a robotic puppet, $7716
  • Francis Kenna, for development of new works and training in new art  forms, $3000
  • Michael Lawrence-Taylor, to work with a mentor on film editing, $6500
  • Liz Lea, Technical skills to upgrade business model to online platform, $4350
  • Katrina Leske, purchase of equipment and material  to develop ceramics practice, $10,000
  • Isabelle Mackay-Sim, Establishing a home ceramic studio and professionally documenting work, $3389
  • Kate Matthews, Research and develop digital public artwork, and develop technical skills, $6980
  • Angus Mcandrew, Record, mix, master and produce a video  for new songs by Neko Pink, $8000
  • Anthony McIlwain, Mentorship in recording and studio-based music production skills, $9987
  • Louis Montgomery, Purchase of music equipment and skills development, $5028

  • Elyshia Weatherby, Purchase of a music equipment for performance and skills development, $4000
  • Matt Withers, Establish a home studio  for recording and digital releases, $9845
