Jetstar starts to try harder with customers

By aviation writer SCOTT MAYMAN

AFTER months of campaigning for answers, there’s a positive outcome involving Jetstar which has turned around its policies to put its customers first when it comes to delayed or cancelled flights.

The big problem was first brought to the airline’s attention last year after multiple flight issues involving “Irregular Operations” such as mass delays or cancellations involving international flights as well as a Canberra service in December last year.

The big problem involved the airline’s after-hours operation when Jetstar’s call centre closed at 10pm. But if you’re flight cancelled after 10pm and ground staff refused to help, then you were stuck at the airport with no assistance.

In such instances, so many issues were reported to media outlets which caused red faces at Jetstar.

Since February, this reporter has been seeking answers on ways to correct this problem. Now it seems Jetstar has listened and is promising to do better.

From last month, the airline quietly re-introduced its 24 hour call centre. It was a measure that Jetstar previously operated, prior to the pandemic.

It’s a far cry from my previous report earlier this year in which some ground staff refused to help while others were so upset, they resigned from the airline.

According to Jetstar’s Chief Operations Officer, Matthew Franzi: “After a lot of hard work by our teams, our operations are turning a corner.

“We’ve seen significant improvements in our punctuality and reliability with more flights taking off and arriving on time and fewer services cancelled.

“The work is not over yet as we continue to invest in new aircraft and hire more people.

“While no airline can guarantee there won’t ever be disruptions due to things like weather or engineering issues, we’re now much better placed to get customers on their way if things don’t go to plan.

“We’ve made these improvements while continuing to offer millions of low fares and launching new routes.”

In the unlikely event of future irregular operations, Jetstar says it’s best for affected passengers to contact the call centre or use the online service for quick resolution. The airline has also just introduced a new app to help passengers in the travels.

CEO Stephanie Tully pleading to customers to give them another go.
Too late Stephanie, customers are sick and tired of being ignored.
Jetstar’s online booking system got hacked and Jetstar told me it was my fault that my booking was cancelled and someone asked for a credit voucher and was used.
Many many customers accounts got hacked and the NSW Police Fraud Squad arrested a person and was given a community correctional sentence.
And to this day,Jetstar and Qantas has never apologised.

I don’t fly anywhere much and I would be happy to drive rather than fly to anywhere in Australia but I have flown to Brisbane a couple of times and on to Vanuatu once recently. I hate Virgin and would go to great lengths to avoid them. They don’t understand the point of making a reservation. Their flight times constantly change so why book early. On one occasion it was Qantas that saved us. Otherwise, I have found Jetstar to be quite good.

Axs you stated you don’t fly much. Well if you book with Jetstar your in cfor a shock. Cancellation after cancellation. No customer service. The overseas call centre disconnects the chat sessions.
Jetstar do not return phone calls.
Their business practice is misleading and deceptive.

The online form is there so they don’t have to talk to anyone.. they are deaf dumb and blind to customers because they have no empathy, no morals and unless it’s about profit or a executive bonus it isn’t on their list of things to do… the worst airline in Australia.. they have one star as their logo and a one star rating

I was so disrespect by Jetstar several reschedules/cancels over 3 days. No customer service . 8hrs waiting for a Jetstar plane. Obviously they didn’t have time to give it a decent ckean. Grotty! Booked and pd for first class. No first class on the old plane. By the time we finally reached Melbourne I was in the carpark at 1am. Managed to get to a hotel. Damn Jetstsr. I will NEVER fly international with them again.

Crickets…..can you hear them? That’s my experience with Jetstar employees – they don’t listen, customer-facing staff run & hide, they look at you as if you’re invisible. I’ve come to the conclusion that all these poor individuals are SOOO EMBARRASSED by the performance, management & quality of Jetstar et al, that they now automatically defer to the ‘not my problem’ mode & ignore the confused, tired, disappointed, frustrated, angry, impatient, deprived, hungry, thirsty, emotionally exhausted humans who have paid their ’hard earned’ cash to travel to a destination for a purpose, on a schedule that fits their needs. They have paid their cash to an organisation which subsequently rewards it’s CEO an absolutely sinful salary (an amount that us ‘unwashed masses’ cannot begin to comprehend). This organisation does not endorse truthful, factual & responsible face to face communication. Not to mention that trying any other avenue of communication with the organisation is nigh on impossible! Life’s too short to waste any more money, time or emotional energy with this sorry excuse for a ‘service providing business’ (I use that term loosely) so farewell Qantas & Jetstar, I’ll just have to invest my hard earned in foreign providers….

Well after a cancelled flight and a total lack of care displayed my grandson who was quire upset learnt (as he said to me) that he will not fly jetstar… my children will not fly and I will not so jetstar is teaching 3 generations not to fly jetstar . Sounds like an incompetent business plan to me long term.
