Pair arrested for hammer assault and burglary

AN Oaks Estate woman has undergone surgery after allegedly being assaulted with a hammer during a burglary.

On Saturday, a 48-year-old man and 40-year-old woman – both from Oaks Estate – are alleged to have assaulted the woman in her home before stealing cash.

The pair were arrested on Monday.

The man is currently subject to a suspended sentence and good behaviour obligations.

He is facing charges of aggravated burglary with intent to cause harm, possessing an offensive weapon, attempting to choke a person and render them insensible, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm, damaging property and choking another person.

The woman, also subject to good behaviour obligations, is facing charges or aggravated burglary with intent to commit theft, committing an act of indecency without consent and minor theft.
