Pair facing court for aggravated burglary

A 21-year-old Bonner man and a 20-year-old man from Sutton, NSW, are facing the ACT Magistrates Court for an aggravated burglary in Belconnen.

At 12.35am on Wednesday, the two men – as well as a third, not-yet identified man – allegedly forced their way into Westfield Belconnen, broke into the CeX Electronics store and stole items, before fleeing on foot.

Following a report from Westfield Security, police patrols on Cohen Street, Belconnen, spotted the 21-year-old man and arrested him after a short foot pursuit.

At 1am, the 20-year-old man was found hiding in a hedge on Cameron Avenue, Belconnen, where he was arrested.

A black backpack was allegedly found nearby, which contained 16 mobile phones believed to have been stolen during the burglary.

Both men have been charged with one count each of aggravated burglary – intent to commit theft.

Investigations into the identify of the third man are ongoing.
