It was reported in CT back in the mid 90’s that Canberra has the highest bike thefts in Australia, the same story was repeated in 2020 . At a dodgy public housing complex in Lyneham I’ve see COUNTLESS stolen bikes since 2018 always ridden by ex cons/junkies who have no fear of being caught whatsoever, or often pulled apart by scattered junkies. Some have a different bike every time you see them, even as I write this there’s a heroin addict with a stolen electric bike outside the flat he’s squatting in. He’s had many others recently as well.
And if government housing authorities cared about their complexes (and cared about the community) there could be some security where it’s needed the most. The bike theft problem could be addressed somewhat if the distant ,idealogical muppets in power gave a shit about the wider issue of proper public housing management.
